According to reports, over 350 people were rescued in Iron, Reynolds, and Crawford counties on Friday as floodwaters rapidly took over the area. Among those rescued were 250 staff and children at Camp Taum Sauk, who were safely evacuated. Another 100 people were rescued through water rescues.
One Crawford County woman, Faith Gregory, lost her life after being swept away by the floodwaters. Gregory was found dead a mile downstream from her home in Huzzah Creek, where part of her home collapsed in the floodwaters. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the power of Mother Nature.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Eddie Young described the situation as ‘definitely not the outcome we were hoping for.’ He added, ‘It’s a tragic reminder of how strong Mother Nature can be and how forceful it can be.’
Residents in the affected areas were left stranded, with many roads washed away by the floodwaters. Missouri Region C spokesperson Kate Moore said, ‘But they’re OK. They’re just stranded because the roads are washed away. We have a lot of damage – the trees, buildings, a lot of things have gone and ripped the roads away.’
