Marvel’s highly anticipated Comic-Con panel has finally revealed its latest casting news, confirming that none other than Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling will be taking on the iconic role of Ghost Rider in the upcoming 2028 film.
The Gosling movie, which will see the actor reteam with Shawn Levy and Jonathan Tropper, the same team behind the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, will mark a significant return to the Disney empire for Gosling, who got his start at just 13 years old on Disney Channel’s The All New Mickey Mouse Club.
Levy will be directing the film, while Tropper will be writing the script. The latest casting news has sent shockwaves throughout the fan community, with many eagerly anticipating the next installment in the Ghost Rider franchise.
For those who may be unfamiliar, the Ghost Rider movies have a combined worldwide box office gross of over $361 million, with the original film starring Nicolas Cage released in 2007 and its sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, released in 2011.
The new Ghost Rider film is set to follow the story of Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who sells his soul and becomes a supernatural agent of vengeance. The original movie featured Eva Mendes in the role of Roxane Simpson, with no word yet on whether she will reprise her role in the upcoming film.
Interestingly, Gosling’s involvement in the project comes at a time when he is also set to appear in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, which is due out in May 2027. However, it appears that scheduling conflicts may have forced him to drop out of the secret Daniels film for Universal.
Gosling has a long history with Marvel, having appeared in the recent film adaptation of Project Hail Mary, a film based on the novel by Andy Weir and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film, which was released in March, went on to gross over $684 million worldwide.
Marvel’s Comic-Con panel also saw the announcement of several other upcoming films, including Black Panther 3, which will see David Jonsson take on the role of T’Challa’s grown son. The film is set to hit theaters in December 2028.
