Speaking to Deadline, Araki shared his experiences with AI tools in editing the film’s pivotal scene, which was shot on a mini golf course next to a freeway. The scene, featuring Cooper Hoffman and Chase Sui Wonders, was initially plagued by the overwhelming noise of the freeway, but thanks to AI-powered tools, the sound was significantly reduced, creating a more immersive experience for the audience.
Araki’s enthusiasm for AI tools stems from their ability to make the filmmaking process more accessible and efficient. ‘For me, one of the coolest things is the technology is so advanced now and it really makes it so filmmaker-friendly,’ he explained. ‘In the old days, making a movie was a technically hard and laborious process. You had to be a crazy obsessive person to even try to make a movie.’
With the advent of AI tools, Araki believes that the rules of filmmaking are being rewritten. ‘I think Hollywood’s really sort of scrambling,’ he said. ‘It’s like the Titanic, people just kind of running around. So, the rules are really being rewritten.’
Araki’s ‘I Want Your Sex’ is a testament to the power of indie filmmaking in the modern era. Despite the challenges of getting distribution and finance, Araki remains optimistic about the future of Hollywood. ‘I’m personally kind of excited for the future,’ he said. ‘I think a lot of the old formulas aren’t really working anymore.’
